'Pericos Don't Abandon' animal welfare campaign returns
The annual initiative continues support for animals
RCD Espanyol have long established a commitment to animal welfare and social responsibility, and this continues with the latest edition of the ‘Los Pericos No Abandonen’ (‘Pericos Don't Abandon’) campaign, an initiative that promotes adoption, responsible pet ownership, and collaboration with local animal shelters. This year, the campaign is once again supported by RCDE Volunteers and the Penya Perica Happy Animals, as well as by Elanco and Libra, who are returning as partners.
First team player Jofre Carreras is the face of the announcement of the 2025 campaign, encouraging all Espanyol fans to participate. The paw print design on his training shirt serves as a reminder that there is still not enough being done about animal abandonment.
Being a Perico is about much more than just supporting the team: it's about being loyal and caring for our own. About never abandoning them. With this message, the club want to raise awareness and encourage everyone to reflect on a problem that, like the paw prints on the shirt, is a visible reality.
On Saturday, coinciding with RCD Espanyol’s game against Villarreal CF, eleven dogs from the Centre d’Acollida d’Animals de Companyia de Barcelona (CAACB) animal shelter will walk onto the pitch at the RCDE Stadium accompanied by first team players. This pioneering initiative in the world of football aims to give visibility to animals available for adoption and raise awareness about the importance of not abandoning them. Furthermore, through the website www.barcelona.cat/adopta, fans can meet all the animals at the shelter who are looking for a new home.
During the match and until November 22nd, the club will set up collection points for blankets, towels, pet food, snacks, and tinned food in the RCDE Store at the RCDE Stadium. All participants will be entered into a special raffle with three exclusive prizes: A 125th anniversary shirt signed by the team, two tickets to PortAventura theme park, and a Match Day VIP Experience for two people with access to the corporate area. The collected items will be donated to CAACB and other animal shelters in Catalonia, thus expanding the campaign's charitable reach.
