Sergio García appointed as RCD Espanyol B coach
The club legend takes on a new challenge as a coach
RCD Espanyol have reached an agreement with Sergio García to become the new coach of Espanyol B. The Barcelona native, who already boasts a distinguished track record in youth football coaching, has signed a two-year contract through to 2028.
García is an Espanyol legend, having turned out for Los Pericos over seven seasons across two spells: The first from 2010 to 2015 and the second from 2017 to 2019. He played 231 matches and scored 50 goals for the club.
As a player, he also made appearances in La Liga with Real Zaragoza, Real Betis, and UD Levante. Since retiring, he has spent recent years building a successful career in youth football, coaching Damm Juvenil A and being called up by Spain to coach the Under-17s squad this past season.
The arrival of Sergio García brings more Espanyol history to La21. He is joined by Ramon Ferrer, who will be the assistant coach, and Pablo Rotchen, head of Individual Player Improvement. Rotchen is also a former Espanyol player: A defender who played a total of 70 matches for the club between 1999 and 2002.
His coaching staff will be completed by Borja Esteve as fitness coach; Gerard Schell as analyst; Sergi Pujol as goalkeeping coach; and Rafa Alba as team delegate.
