Manolo González reflects on the draw against Sevilla FC

Manolo González analysed RCD Espanyol de Barcelona’s 1-1 draw against Sevilla FC after the final whistle in a press conference.

The coach commented that: “It was a difficult game. We were good on the ball in the opening stages. We struggled more in one-on-one situations. We had control, but lacked clarity. Omar’s goal would have changed the game a lot. We have to keep going and analyse the areas of our play that we can improve”.

The Espanyol coach added: “Sevilla FC didn’t create any real danger, apart from two situations. We didn’t have too many difficulties from them. Until the first half-hour, we weren’t sharp enough on the ball, however. We played too many direct passes. With the 3-5-2 formation, we had more depth”.

He explained the changes made in the closing stages as being because “We wanted to have two strikers to give us more presence in the box. Marcos can give us that. Quilindschy has a good technical level. With that change, we were looking for a player with good delivery and a good cross. If he hasn’t featured more, it’s because Hinojo has been doing very well. Bryan Zaragozahas the ability to beat players and understand where the advantages are”.

Finally, González stressed that “we have to raise our competitive level. Aside from certain aspects of our play, we have to improve in individual duels”.
