González: “We didn’t compete at our level”
The coach reacts to the loss to Real Sociedad
Manolo González analysed RCD Espanyol de Barcelona’s 2-1 defeat against Real Sociedad in his post-match press conference.
“I didn’t like the way we conceded the goals. We allowed them counterattacking situations; both goals came that way and that bothers me. By the fourth minute we were already chasing the game, and that makes things difficult”.
The Espanyol coach explained that the team improved after the break -but were unable to make the most of their best spell.
“In the second half, when we were playing better and had more control of the game, that’s when they made it 2-1. It wasn’t a good performance from us. We weren’t good enough in the individual duels or in our defensive marking”, he said.
He highlighted defensive transitions as one of the key aspects of the match, stating “After the break, the game had become more even. They hurt us in those counterattacking situations."
“We didn’t compete at our level. Even so, we were still in the game, but there are a lot of things we can improve. We have to get back to the level we showed in the previous matches."
Finally, González gave a positive assessment of Brazilian midfielder Moscardo’s official debut for Espanyol.
“Gabi had a good debut. He did well on the ball and in the duels."
