González: “The team showed character”
The coach speaks after the 0-0 draw with Real Betis
Manolo González spoke positively about the draw that RCD Espanyol achieved at La Cartuja against Betis, stating that “it was a good point for us and we kept a clean sheet after a long time without doing so. We knew it would be a difficult game and that we would suffer against a Champions League-level opponent. It was a demanding game and the team showed character.”
The coach insisted that “now more tough matches are coming, but they are difficult in this division. We knew it would be difficult to get points today, but keeping a clean sheet is half the battle. Now we’ll have to go to Barcelona’s stadium and we will compete at the highest level, as we always have.”
Finally, he emphasised that “I already warned everybody in the first half of the season that it would be difficult for the team to maintain the same level of performance; not because of anything in particular, but because form fluctuates. In a 38-game season it’s hard to match the top teams, but it also feels unfair that we only have 38 points right now."
