Espanyol B open season with a win
The second team win 1-2 against SD Logroñés
Espanyol B started their league season with a win, as they bested SD Logroñés in La Rioja. The game was Sergio García's official debut as coach.
His side dominated the first half, and opened the scoring after seven minutes thanks to a goal from Eloi Tost. They continued the onslaught, and in the first twenty minutes, had already hit the post and enjoyed two more chances.
The home side didn't threaten until the 22nd minute, with an opportunity saved by Yehor Krapivin -in his debut in the division.
Up until halftime, Espanyol continued to control proceedings, but couldn't find the second goal to give them some breathing room.
After the break, the home side came out with more energy, but Espanyol remained organised and solid at the back. As the minutes ticked by, they grew in confidence and regained control.
Eloi Tost, Jan Peries, Alejandro Santiago, and Polli posed a significant attacking threat, but the ball just would not go in for them.
Just when everything seemed to be in hand, Logroñés managed to score the equaliser with ten minutes remaining.
This led to a nail-biting final few minutes where anything could have happened. In the 90th minute, Hugo Caroz missed a golden opportunity to make it 1-2, heading a free kick from the wing just wide. Then, in the 93rd minute, Víctor Mullerat -who had come on for Polli-, scored the goal that gave Espanyol a well-deserved victory.
