Drkušić: "I am ready, both physically and mentally"
The new arrival is officially presented
A signing at the end of last week, Vanja Drkušić talked about his arrival at RCD Espanyol at his official presentation on Wednesday.
“It's been a few fantastic, amazing days so far. The weather is very hot -very different from what I experienced in Saint Petersburg. It's very hot, but I'll try to get used to it as soon as possible,” he told journalists.
"I'm a professional and I have to be prepared. I am ready, both physically and mentally. I've already trained with my teammates and I'll be ready for whatever the coach needs,” he explained, before commenting on how a conversation with Monchi convinced him to join RCD Espanyol.
“Everything he told me influenced me. I wanted to play in LaLiga and I'm grateful for the opportunity I now have," he said. "Football here is very technical, while in Russia it's more physical. I think that's the biggest difference. I'm adapting well and my teammates are helping me a lot.”
His idea is to take advantage of this season's loan deal to then stay at Espanyol.
“I wouldn't have come if I didn't believe in the club exercising their option to buy me, although I know there are good players here competing for places. I hope things go well for me and that the fans accept me.”
“He was a player we were very clear about,” explained Monchi. “He's a versatile player who can play on either side of central defensive pairing. He's good in the air, strong, and good at playing the ball out from the back. Of all the names we considered, everyone agreed that this player fit the profile we were looking for. It was a deal that involved other clubs, but his willingness to come and that of his team made it possible for him to be with us today,” concluded the head of the club's sporting operations.
