Drkušić: "I’m eager to meet my new teammates and start training"
The new signing makes his first statements
Vanja Drkušić gave his first words as an RCD Espanyol player after his signing was announced on Friday, and said that he understands that the initial challenge for some will be to pronounce his name correctly.
"Even my fellow Slovenians struggle to pronounce it. I understand if my teammates make mistakes with it, but I’ll try my best on the pitch so they remember how to pronounce it.”
He explained that he spent a sleepless night travelling from Russia to Barcelona and, as soon as he arrived, he had to undergo a medical examination.
“I’m very happy and proud to be at a club with such a rich tradition. I’m eager to meet my new teammates and start training.”
"I've come to a club with a lot of quality. We all know that Espanyol have one of the best fanbases around, and I think this season they’ll be our 12th man. Our job is to give our all in every training session and every match to try and achieve the best results, and then we’ll see where we finish.”
He revealed that his natural position is "central defender", although he has also played in other positions.
"I like to be aggressive and win duels, but at the same time I try to make good passes, although what interests me most is that the team win," he concluded by saying.
