'An Unrepeatable Generation' honoured with special event
Players from the 1970s and 1980s are gathered at the RCDE Stadium
RCD Espanyol and the club’s Foundation held an event dubbed “An Unrepeatable Generation” this week, to recognise sides of the 1970s and 1980s, as part of the club’s 125th anniversary celebrations.
"This is an exercise in memories and learning to remember," declared Mao Ye, CEO of the club, at the beginning of the gathering.
Antoni Fernández Teixidó, president of the RCD Espanyol Foundation, explained that: "During these last few months, we have been explaining the history, the memory, and the ambition of Espanyol, but above all, there are two ideas that stand out above all others: The fans and the players. This is what we recognise today." On behalf of these fans, to the RCD Espanyol players, we thank you very much.”
Amongst the crowd there were jokes, laughter, hugs, surprises, respect and affection among the honorees. Twenty-three men and six women from those vintage years were present in the RCDE Stadium auditorium with their families.
Joan Josep Barberà, Rodilla, Sabaté, Juanjo Bertomeu, Antonio Moya, Roselló, Tanco, ‘Pepín’, Solsona, Villaronga, Paco Marfil, ‘Pepito’ Ramos, Molinos, Lluís Guri, Montiagut, Marañón, Toni Blanch, Quique Gonzalo, Longhi, Paco Flores, Juan Huertas, Jordi ‘Masini’, Arabí, and Manuel.
