3-0 road defeat for Espanyol B
The team lose to Valencia Mestalla
Espanyol B visited the Antonio Puchades to face Valencia Mestalla in their penultimate match of the season -their last away game of the campaign. Unfortunately, they would suffer a 3-0 defeat in the contest.
Raúl Jardiel's men started strongly in the opening minutes, looking well-organised and confident. In the 22nd minute, Almansa delivered a good cross that failed to find a finish, in the best opportunity of the early stages.
However, just when Espanyol were playing their best football, Valencia Mestalla took the lead with a goal from Jaume Durà in the 26th minute.
Los Pericos tried to respond immediately, but they faced a side that pressed hard for a second goal. In the 28th minute, Álex Ruiz made a great save to deny Valencia a second, although just a few minutes later, in the 31st minute, the referee awarded a penalty to the home team, allowing them to extend their lead.
Before halftime, Jan Peries tried his luck with a shot that was unsuccessful.
After the break, RCD Espanyol B stepped up their attacking game. In the 51st minute, they orchestrated a promising move that nearly resulted in a goal. The team continued to push, and in the 75th minute a free kick from the flank flashed across the penalty area.
The clearest chances for further goals came in the final stages of the match. In the 84th minute, Letono tried his luck with a shot from inside the box, and two minutes later, Almansa almost beat the home goalkeeper, who made a crucial save with his foot. Then, in the 90th minute, Almansa clattered the crossbar with a direct free kick.
Just when the home side seemed poised to pull a goal back, Valencia Mestalla sealed the victory in stoppage time, making it 3-0 at the final whistle.
