10-man RCD Espanyol B lost to Castellón B
The team suffer a 2-4 defeat at home
RCD Espanyol B lost 2-4 to Castellón B in their latest league fixture, with a sending off for Timera in the second half a defining moment in the contest.
Raúl Jardiel's men came into the match on a run of two consecutive goalless draws, and were up against a Castellón side who, despite fighting for survival, had scored more goals than the league leaders -albeit conceding almost 60, making them the team with the worst defensive record in the division.
Both sides created numerous chances early on, although Espanyol started stronger in terms of chances. Jan Peries had the first clear opportunity, heading a cross from Thymos.
This dominance was converted into a goal in the 27th minute, when Sander and Lluc combined to open the scoring. The following minutes were solid, but in the final five minutes of the first half, the visitors pushed hard and Llorenç had to make a save. Espanyol responded with an even better chance for Jan Peries.
Just before the interval, Castellón converted a penalty to make it 1-1.
The start of the second half was cruel to Espanyol B: In the 49th minute, Timera was sent off for a second bookable offence. Then a foul on the edge of the box led to a penalty for Castellón, which they converted.
Far from being discouraged, RCD Espanyol managed to equalise before the hour mark thanks to a fantastic goal from Almansa, who raced down the wing and beat the onrushing goalkeeper.
At 2-2, Espanyol had a good spell and could have taken the lead, despite being a man down. Thymos and José Ángel had two clear chances, but the opposition defence managed to deny them.
Castellón took the score to 2-3 with fifteen minutes remaining.
Espanyol had a chance to equalise in the 80th minute when José Ángel's cross was just missed by intended target Lluc. Then, on the counter-attack in the 86th minute, Castellón B sealed what ended up being a 2-4 win.
