The young swimmer, one of Spain’s brightest swimming talents and an Espanyol member since birth, took centre stage in the RCDE Stadium VIP Box
Irene Ciércoles, one of the brightest young talents in Spanish swimming, was the special guest for ‘Today we welcome’ in the RCDE Stadium VIP Box ahead of the match against Sevilla FC.
At just 16 years old, the Catalan swimmer has already built an impressive record of achievements. Ciércoles holds the Spanish national record in the 100m butterfly and claimed one gold, two silver and one bronze medal at this summer’s European Junior Championships in Munich. She has also finished fifth overall in the 100m backstroke and sixth in Europe in the relay. Her next major challenge will come in December, when she competes at the World Championships in Beijing, for which she has already qualified.
Beyond her success in the pool, Irene Ciércoles also shares a strong bond with Espanyol. She is RCD Espanyol de Barcelona member number 11,533 and has been a member since the day she was born. “It’s a dream to be here. It’s one of the most important days of my life,” the swimmer said during her visit.
Her passion for the Club runs in the family and dates back to her earliest years. “I’m an Espanyol fan thanks to my mother and my uncle, who signed me and my cousins up as members,” she explained. Among her favourite memories as a Perico, one stands out in particular: “The day we qualified for the Europa League, I ran onto the pitch and even managed to take home a little piece of the turf.”
In addition, the Club’s Vice-President and CEO, Mao Ye, presented the athlete with a commemorative shirt featuring her favourite number, 5.
On Sunday, Irene Ciércoles and her family enjoyed a special day in the President Ángel Rodríguez Lounge, where the swimmer took centre stage in a new edition of ‘Today we welcome’.
