On the occasion of World Cancer Day, RCD Espanyol de Barcelona took part in a day of support and awareness together with the Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer (AECC), reinforcing the Club’s social commitment and its closeness to those living with the disease and the people who support them every day.
The AECC was present in the stands at the RCDE Stadium with the attendance of Bartolomé Jiménez, Guillermo Donadeu García-Nieto and Xavier Ruiz Riera, representatives of the organisation who shared the matchday with Espanyol supporters. Their presence highlighted the importance of joint efforts between clubs, social organisations and the wider community to continue promoting information, prevention, support and research.
The awareness message was also visible on the pitch during the first men’s team match against Deportivo Alavés. As part of the fixture, a message was displayed on the big screen, protocol actions were carried out with the captains and banners were placed on the pitch to increase the reach of the campaign. In addition, several players wore green armbands as a symbol of support for the cause.
The initiative was also extended to women’s and inclusive competitions. RCD Espanyol Femenino joined the World Cancer Day commemoration in the match against Athletic Club, corresponding to Liga F, played on Saturday 31, also wearing the green armband as a sign of support and awareness.
The solidarity message continued during a full LaLiga Genuine matchday, in which RCDE Special also wore the green armband, reinforcing the Club’s commitment to inclusive sport and extending the reach of the initiative across all areas of the organisation.
Through actions like this, RCD Espanyol reaffirms its desire to be a committed and approachable club, joining forces with organisations such as the AECC to help build a more informed, supportive and socially aware society.
