RCD Espanyol finish 2025 as sixth-best team in Spain
Los Pericos earned 60 points during the calendar year
2025 was a resurgent year for RCD Espanyol. Just 12 months ago, RCD Espanyol finished 2024 in the relegation zone, concluding the calendar year with a loss to UD Las Palmas, a direct rival in the fight for survival.
The coaching staff and players were aware that improving their performance in the second half of the season was essential to remaining in LaLiga.
After a successful winter transfer window and a change in mentality upon their return from the Christmas break, RCD Espanyol experienced tremendous improvement. Los Pericos lost only two of their first 14 LaLiga matches in 2025, and if it hadn't been for a dip in form in Leganés that triggered a run of five consecutive defeats, they would have comfortably achieved their goal of staying up. They finished the second half of the campaign with 27 points, thanks in part to a much-celebrated victory against UD Las Palmas in the reverse fixture.
On a table including only the 20 matchdays played in the first half of the 2024/25 LALIGA season, Espanyol -who were third from bottom in January- would have finished tenth with 27 points: Seven wins, seven losses, and six draws. They scored 24 goals and conceded 21.
The second half of 2025 was much more positive. RCD Espanyol won ten of their 17 matches, including a run of five consecutively for the first time since the 1998/99 season. They accumulated 33 points and moved into an excellent fifth place with a goal difference of +5.
Adding up all LaLiga matches for the calendar year, Espanyol finish 2025 as the sixth-best team in Spain, with 60 points, surpassed only by Barcelona (96), Real Madrid (86), Villarreal (75), Atletico Madrid (72), and Real Betis (63).
