Hernández: “We’re going for the win”
The player comments on his LaLiga Best Under-23s Player award for August
Winner of LaLiga's Best Under-23s Player award for August, RCD Espanyol's Javi Hernández commented on the honour this Wednesday.
“It’s a source of pride to receive this recognition. I’m very happy and grateful to LALIGA, Manolo and the dressing room,” he told journalists.
“I've been adapting to the top tier. In the Primera División, everything happens faster. The tempo is very quick and the speed is very high. Those are the two things that have struck me the most," he analysed.
“The game flows better, everything happens faster and there are better passers, so LaLiga may suit me better than other divisions. I can still keep improving in front of goal. I can develop further in that area and, with time, I need to keep working on it.”
“For young players like me, the important thing is to get minutes. I got them at Mirandés, played full matches and built up my ability. Here at RCD Espanyol, Manolo is hugely important. When we started out with the reserve team, he helped me a lot and I developed a lot tactically. He gives me a lot of confidence. He also instilled in me that every footballer has to defend. The coach demands a lot from us defensively and that’s fundamental.”
With the team back in action this Saturday against CA Osasuna, he highlighted the mentality with which the squad approach every match.
“We focus on each game and always try to win. We don’t look beyond the next match. We’re focused on the game against Osasuna. We have to keep doing what we’ve been doing, be clear about what we need to do and go for the win," he insisted.
