RCD Espanyol de Barcelona to open new academy in Chengdu, China
The project will launch this July with 120 pre-registered players and a permanent RCDE coach based in the city
RCD Espanyol de Barcelona continue to increase international growth with the opening of a new RCDE Academy in Chengdu, China. The project, developed jointly with a local partner, will begin this July with 120 pre-registered players and the permanent presence of an RCD Espanyol coach in the city, who will lead the implementation of the club’s training methodology.
The academy will start its first season at Luhu Sanfen Football Park, in Tianfu New Area. Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province and one of the main cities in western China, has more than 21.4 million inhabitants, making it a strategic location for youth football development.
China has become an important destination for football training projects seeking European expertise, methodology and technical support. In this context, RCD Espanyol have been selected to lead this ambitious project in Chengdu together with a local partner, offering young players a professional, stable and high-quality training environment.
Since 2014, the club have developed international academy projects with the aim of sharing the RCDE methodology, values and knowledge around the world. This experience has positioned RCD Espanyol as a benchmark in the creation of international academies and in the development of youth talent beyond Barcelona.
RCDE Academy Chengdu also reinforces the club’s presence in China, following the stable growth of the existing project in Shanghai. With this new academy, RCD Espanyol de Barcelona take another step forward in our international strategy and reaffirm a commitment to developing young players through sustainable projects aligned with the club’s identity and values.
