RCD Espanyol brings its origins to life in LALIGA’s Retro Matchday

RCD Espanyol de Barcelona has taken part in the official launch of the first-ever LALIGA Retro Matchday, an initiative that highlights the legacy of the clubs through kits inspired by some of the most iconic moments in their history.
As part of MBFWMadrid, Javi Puado and Joan Capdevila walked the runway wearing the kit that the Club will use as part of this special initiative promoted by LALIGA. A proposal that brings together football, history and identity in one of the leading showcases of Spanish fashion.
The shirt looks directly back to the origin of a history spanning well over a century. RCD Espanyol was born on 28 October 1900, when the newspaper Los Deportes announced the creation of Sociedad Española de Foot-ball, considered the Club’s founding record. Its founder, Ángel Rodríguez, stated that the first colours were yellow and black, as also reported by the press of the time. At the end of that same year, the team’s first photograph was taken, with an unfinished Sagrada Familia in the background, an image that has become inseparable from Espanyol’s historical identity.
The kit that the Club will wear during this matchday is based on the design created to mark RCD Espanyol’s 125th anniversary and has been adapted for use in competition through the addition of the required sponsorship and competition elements, while fully preserving the essence of the original concept.
The LALIGA Retro Matchday will take place from 10 to 13 April and will bring together LALIGA clubs in a joint initiative that will take the legacy of Spanish football beyond the pitch.
For RCD Espanyol, taking part in this initiative is a new opportunity to reaffirm its history from a contemporary perspective and continue projecting an identity built over more than 125 years.
