OFFICIAL STATEMENT
RCD Espanyol Barcelona appeal for respect for our fans, in light of an incident that occured at the RCDE Stadium before the derby against FC Barcelona.
We cannot allow that people intend to justify the actions of the person who caused a mass collision with their car, using the angry reactions of the panicked fans in the area of the extremely serious incident as an excuse.
We reiterate that the match was not postponed because those with the authority to do so, based on the information they had, decided thus.
Representatives from the club were at the scene from the very beginning and have checked on the condition of those affected. We reaffirm our support for all of them and their families and are at their disposal for whatever they need.
We understand that it is necessary and essential that the institutions responsible for setting and enforcing the rules review the matchday mobility protocol.
We are aware that an unforeseen event like this has generated a great deal of tension, and we demand that measures be taken to ensure that everyone can attend football matches with maximum safety. Therefore, we will follow up on the investigation as necessary, with the aim of preserving the interests of our fans, whom we ask to maintain the utmost unity for the good of our organisation.
