Match Report: Goalless draw against RC Deportivo de A Coruña
RCD Espanyol show positive signs en route to a point
A back-and-forth encounter at the RCDE Stadium ended goalless between RCD Espanyol and RC Deportivo de A Coruña, as the two sides shared the points on LaLiga Matchday 12.
Espanyol took the pitch with coach Eder Sarabia’s principle of “finding the advantages” in mind, and determined to lay siege to Leo Román’s goal. Sometimes they created chances with just three passes; at other times, they built their attacks more methodically. These efforts created chances for the home side, forcing the Depor goalkeeper to shine.
In the 10th minute, Roberto Fernández sent a header toward the net, only for Leo Román to reach down and parry it away near the base of the post. Then, in the 17th minute, came an even more spectacular moment: another header -this time from Alejandro Santiago- that seemed destined for the top corner, but the keeper intervened once again.
In terms of opportunities for RC Deportivo, Espanyol’s Omar El Hilali had snuffed out a chance for Amatucci after a soft strike managed to get past Ángel Fortuño.
There was more to come, with a brilliant counterattack involving Cala, Pere Milla, and Roberto that culminated in a final pass that Quagliata managed to clear just three metres from the goal line.
Espanyol had certainly done enough to break the deadlock against a tough, resilient side that refused to back down, but the game went into halftime with the score at 0-0.
For the second half, Depor manager Hidalgo opted for substitutions, seeking fresh legs and pace for the remainder of the match.
For RCD Espanyol, Tyrhys Dolan looked sharp on both flanks, though he struggled to connect with Roberto’s runs.
As the tempo slowed, Depor found a sense of composure and defensive solidity. The game picked up speed again in the final stretch following the introductions of Moscardo, Bryan Zaragoza, and Marcos Fernández. The latter had a chance to break through the wall created by RC Deportivo just before the final whistle, but was unsuccessful.
