Manuel Fernández Osorio dies aged 79
The club mourn the loss of a player with over 100 appearances
RCD Espanyol de Barcelona mourn the passing of former player Manuel Fernández Osorio at the age of 79.
Born in Jerez de la Frontera, Osorio joined the club in 1964 from Jerez Industrial, after a successful trial that impressed the club's coaches. At just 20 years old, he began a career that would see him wear the Espanyol shirt for eight seasons.
A fast, reliable right-back, known for his speed in attack, his outstanding performances earned him four caps for the Spain national team. He was the linchpin of the RCD Espanyol team until an injury suffered at the end of 1968 marked a turning point in his career. Although he recovered, his right knee was never the same, and he gradually lost his place.
After eight seasons and 114 official appearances, Osorio moved to Real Burgos in 1972 and later played for CE Sabadell, where he ended his career.
RCD Espanyol wish to express our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
