Kike García: "The break is a chance to reset"
The striker speaks after Wednesday training
Kike García, one of the most experienced and knowledgeable voices in the dressing room, said this week that the international break is "A time to focus on ourselves and to build on what we've been doing during this time, to change the very bad run of form we're on.”
He acknowledged that “every player is eager to get back to playing. This international break will be good for us to ‘reset’ and go back to doing the things we did so well before -and not repeat the mistakes we're making now.”
The striker reasoned that “the feeling in the squad isn't as bad as the results would suggest. In these last three or four matches, we've done things well, but we've lacked that element of luck. We have to leave nothing to chance.”
He admitted that the last game “was incredibly tough. We took the lead twice, but both goals were disallowed, and we weren't awarded a penalty. In the end, we went into halftime 0-2 down, and we came out determined to turn things around. We made it 1-2, and I had a chance at the end, but the goalkeeper was fantastic. I think this team have heart and will fight until the very end. We're going to give our all to turn this terrible situation around.”
He underlined that, facing this final stretch of games, “we're incredibly hungry to change this situation. It's up to us to give our fans something to cheer about. And we're going to leave everything out there on the pitch.”
