First team pay homage to Dani Jarque
The squad remember the legendary captain before departing for England
The RCD Espanyol de Barcelona first team paid tribute to club legend Dani Jarque this Friday with a floral offering and a minute of silence. The ceremony was attended by players, coaching staff, and other members of the team, and concluded with applause from the entire squad.
Jarque is one of the most emblematic and beloved players in the club's history, remembered as an inspirational captain. His life was tragically cut short on August 8th, 2009, at the age of 26. Since then, his memory has lived on at RCD Espanyol, with his name being given to the training ground, the famous La21 youth system taking his shirt number, and an applause in the 21st minute of every game the club play.
The homage in Barcelona took place before the team's departure for England, where they will play Coventry City on August 8th in their final preseason friendly.
Gate 21 of the RCDE Stadium will be open from 10:45am to 2pm this Saturday, so that Espanyol fans can come and honour the memory of Dani Jarque. The day will also have special significance with the unveiling of a wax figure, a collaborative effort between the Museo de Cera de Barcelona wax museum, the RCD Espanyol de Barcelona Foundation, and Màgic Díaz, the player's and his family's representative.
This initiative aims to pay tribute to the legacy of a figure forever etched in the history and memory of RCD Espanyol.
