Espanyol Media launch CLOSER documentary series
The series shows the human side of RCD Espanyol
RCD Espanyol de Barcelona are proud to present CLOSER, a new series comprised of five 12-minute episodes that reinforces the club's strategic commitment to original content. This is the third major project devised by Espanyol Media, following 'Lucha hasta el final' (Fight to the End) and the 'Artesans del futbol' (Football Artisans) trilogy.
CLOSER focuses on building relationships with fans, telling stories from different perspectives and offering a look at daily life for those at RCD Espanyol as people. Unlike previous productions, this new series adopts an entertainment-oriented approach, with a fly-on-the-wall and "inside" style that accompanies the viewer beyond football matches.
The series combines what happens on the pitch with the everyday lives of the players on both the men's and women's teams. With a warm and emotional tone, CLOSER aims to strengthen the bond between the club and fans, reflecting the identity and understanding of football that defines RCD Espanyol.
A human perspective from multiple viewpoints
Each of the five episodes is based on a central concept that serves as a narrative thread. Through this idea, the series explores different realities and sensibilities, constructing a collective portrait of the club and the people who make up the entity.
The first episode, titled 'Un Perico más' revolves around the concept of family. This episode presents different stories that coexist within RCD Espanyol: That of a player and his family; that of a player on the women's first team who is expecting a baby with her partner; and of a footballer immersed in wedding preparations. Different moments in life are shown and invite the viewer to see themselves reflected in them.
The series' opening episode takes place at a key moment in the season: On the eve of the derby against FC Barcelona on January 3rd. In a demanding sporting scenario, the episode reinforces the idea of Espanyol as a large family that remains united regardless of results.
The stars of this first episode are Pol Lozano, Pere Milla, and Cristina Baudet.
With CLOSER, RCD Espanyol consolidate a unique, relatable, and distinctive narrative, demonstrating that the club is about much more than just football: Rather, it is the sum of a collection of human stories that unfold together.
