Dmitrovic: "We have to leave everything out there"
The goalkeeper insists that the team cannot rest on their laurels
Marko Dmitrović has been in spectacular form for RCD Espanyol, and his contributions have been key to the recent run of victories celebrated by the team. The goalkeeper spoke ahead of Los Pericos next game, against Getafe CF, and gave his thoughts on the run of results.
“We have three consecutive LaLiga wins and we're very excited. This could be the best moment of the season for us. On Saturday, we have a very difficult match against one of the most competitive teams in the division. We're approaching it with enthusiasm and eagerness to take three more points,” he said.
He also insists that the immediate objective is to “rack up three more points to reach those 42 or 43 points that would give us survival as soon as possible. Until we achieve that, we won't think about anything else. Some people may think that we need to be more ambitious. It's all very positive, but those of us who are more experienced know what this is all about. If you don't compete at your best, you suffer, like we saw the other day in the Copa del Rey. We can dream and be optimistic, but we have to think step by step, and we're not going to change that. We'll look ahead later. We're not going to relax until the last matchday of the season. What is coming up first, and what is down to us, is the next game. We have to be ambitious, but we also have to be realistic. We're at a point where we can enjoy ourselves, but not relax. It's constant work that has been going on since preseason."
Regarding his impressive statistics at Espanyol, he argued that, over the years, “I've learned not to focus on these numbers. They're nice, but sometimes they don't mean anything. I'm perhaps in the best form of my career, and I say that based on how I feel. I'm really enjoying it and I'm working hard to ensure this good run continues.”
“I want to do my best. I've learned from past mistakes. At Sevilla, I felt the pressure of replacing Yassine Bono, and that was a mistake. Everyone has to give their all. From day one, I've focused on contributing as much as possible. I try to improve every day. I'm very happy to be here and I just hope to be at my best.”
Finally, regarding the match against Getafe, he emphasised that “they're going to demand a lot from us. We have to be prepared for that big challenge. We have to be mentally prepared to suffer and leave everything out there on the pitch.”
