Cabrera: "We're calm and confident that we're going to win this weekend"
The veteran defender expresses his belief in the squad
Leandro Cabrera is back available for the game against UD Las Palmas, which is vital for RCD Espanyol's top flight survival. They meet on Saturday afternoon, with Los Pericos also hoping that CD Leganés fail to get a result against Real Valladolid to make things a little calmer in the run-up to the final whilstle.
“We've been convinced for a long time that we will get out of this. We've reached a decisive match. We've played very well at our own ground, and the level of performance and confidence we have at home is tremendous,” Cabrera summarised, ahead of the last matchday of the season.
The defender is aware of the importance of the game, and believes RCD Espanyol should focus on taking the three points to avoid any nerves.
“We don't want to depend on anyone else's results, and for that, we're going to go out there to try to win, as always. Last year we made it to the playoffs and we were able to handle it. You have to have discipline and composure. You have to be like a hammer, consistently chipping away."
He also acknowledged that it will be an emotionally charged match.
"Despite this, we have to be disciplined, get stuck in, and go out there to win. We're convinced we'll win. It's a final for us, and finals are games that you prepare to win.”
Cabrera explained that “both the good and the bad results last a day, and you have to turn your focus to the next game. You're competing against other players and other teams with the same things at stake, so we have a great opportunity this weekend because we're playing at home.”
"Las Palmas will do their best and show maximum competitiveness, so the best thing is to go all out without losing our heads, leaving everything on the pitch to stay in the Primera División."
“Everything depends on us. We don't depend on what happens at another ground. We're strong and focused. We can tip the balance in our favour. We're doing very well. If we analyze the team calmly, we see that we've competed against all the teams we've faced. It's been very tough at all levels. I wish we could have resolved the situation in Leganés, but it didn't happen. The only thing I can say is that we're calm and confident that we're going to win this weekend.”
