The new signing is presented at the RCDE Stadium
RCD Espanyol presented Brian Oliván, the club's first incorporation for the 2022/23 season at the RCDE Stadium shortly after his signing was announced. The player, accompanied by club CEO, Mao Ye, and sporting director, Domingo Catoira, addressed the fans and the media at his grand unveiling.
"I've arrived here with a lot of ambition and desire to face this new challenge in my career, and I hope it will be a very exciting time. I bring desire and the intention to have the best possible season," he stated.
"I think I have gone through several clubs and stages in my career, and now I am at the best time in terms of my sporting maturity. I'm coming to Espanyol at my best moment."
Oliván defined Espanyol as a club "with pride, feeling and like a family, which is very important for me."
Asked about his ambitions, the defender pointed out that "talking about long-term goals is a mistake, as we have to take things day-by-day. Setting short-term goals is a better idea, and we'll see little by little how things go. I can contribute with ambition, effort and commitment. I've come here to fight for a place in the starting XI. Otherwise, I would not have come. This mentality is good for the group and for the team."
For Oliván, this is a return to his native Barcelona after time away in Spain and beyond.
"I'm from here, and I'm coming home. It's important because I'm very much a family person. It was important to return to Barcelona and be around the people to whom I feel close. They had a lot of confidence in me. We are starting a new project and I am coming home. I left when I was 19 and I've come back at 28. Coming home is always special."
