A solid Espanyol added a point in Tenerife in a match in which they had the best opportunities
The longest trip of the season was conditioned by some false positives of COVID 19 that forced the team to stay Saturday waiting for medical results, only to wake up early to arrive in Tenerife just to eat and then off to the field. An excuse, however, which the coach refuses to use because he knows how complicated it is to get points every week.
This league will be a difficult marathon that must be faced with enthusiasm, confidence and conviction as they are learning week in and week out. Not only are the teams very even, but also, no one is going to give away even an inch of advantage. Espanyol knows it and all the teams that face the Blue and Whites who fight with heart and effort to cancel any Blue and White attempt know it as well.
With that in mind, Tenerife came out wanting to bite from the start, but Moore's dangerous shot was met by an effective Diego López. The visitor's response was immediate with a spectacular play by RDT that ended up slightly high.
The locals fast on the counter-attack and effectively retreated every time they lost the ball. That caused Espanyol to gradually take over the rhythm of the game and began to haunt the goal of Ortolá. A shot from RDT, three from Puado and another from Embarba were the blue and white's attempts to try to reach the break with an advantage, but that did not translate into the scoreboard, but which showed that Espanyol grew as the minutes passed.
The second half started with an identical scheme. Espanyol dominated and Tenerife little by little was closed up in their own field, although without giving up the counter whenever they had a chance. Again, the danger was close to the local goal, but just couldn't be materialized. Vicente Moreno chose to use his bench and Melamed, Vargas and Darder gave him the oxygen that the attack needed to face a final stretch that got the blood flowing. Espanyol was once again solid and compact, but could only add one point against a determined Tenerife. The goal, however, did not come and the match ended up leaving a bittersweet aftertaste among the blue and white team.
