The U19s (Juvenil A) put four past FC Barcelona and won the bragging rights in the Barcelona derby in a fantastic performance by Luis Blanco´s team
Barcelona is blue and white. The RCD Espanyol U19 team delighted the 1,000 strong crowd that gathered at the Dani Jarque Training Ground to watch the derby against FC Barcelona. In a huge upset, Blanco´s side were on top for the majority of the game, enjoying the best chances and going ahead on the scoreboard with an effort from Recasens before the break. Villahermosa widened the lead from the penalty spot and Kenneth put the icing on the cake with two brilliant strikes. A great victory after the U19 players and coaches all participated in the big food collection the day before.
It goes without saying that the team were switched on when they went out onto the pitch at the Dani Jarque Training Centre. Showing great energy early on, the
blanquiazules were clearly on top, controlling possession and creating a clear chance for Jofre early on where Tenas was able to avoid going 1-0 down early on. It was clear that a goal was coming from the number of chances created by the blanquiazules, but after another Tenas save from Baquero´s shot, it seemed that the Espanyol side would be made to wait. In the face of Espanyol´s dominance, the visiting side responded with lighting quick counter attacks, which kept the Espanyol defence on their toes, even if they did not trouble Fortuño. The game was poised, with both sides locked in a battle for the advantage. However, the pericos, the side more deserving of the lead, went ahead five minutes before the break from a corner. Blanco´s tactics worked to perfection, and Recasens, steaming in, headed home Julen´s pinpoint corner. It remained 1-0 until the break thanks to a vital intervention from Fortuño from a Nils cross.
If the first half finished well, the second started even better. 5 minutes in, as Jofre ran towards goal, he was obstructed by Tenas resulting in a clear penalty. Villahermosa, wearing the captain´s armband, took responsibility from 12 yards and made it 2-0 despite the goalkeeper getting fingertips to the ball. With this score line, FC Barcelona had to come forward and this opened up space for the
pericos to put the game to bed. An exquisite combination between Gori and Jofre almost made it 3-0 with the latter´s strike clipping the post. Just as the 3 rd Espanyol goal seemed imminent, a rare foray forward from the visitors resulted in a goal, making it 2-1 to set up a tense finish. However, the suspense lasted just 10 minutes as Gori, winning the ball in midfield, set up Kenneth who made it 3-1 to kill the game off. The Espanyol side smelled blood, though, and before the final whistle Kenneth made it 4-1 to the delight of the Espanyol fans who ended the game cheering each Espanyol pass.
