Zaragoza: “Espanyol’s project is ideal for me”
Bryan Zaragoza expresses his excitement at joining the club
Bryan Zaragoza was officially presented as a new RCD Espanyol de Barcelona player this Thursday at the RCDE Stadium. The Málaga-born winger spoke to the media alongside Monchi, the club’s sporting director, who highlighted the player’s qualities:
“One of our priorities when planning the squad was to bring in a winger who can take players on, excel in one-on-one situations, be incisive and get in behind the defence. Bryan has all of those qualities,” he told the media.
“I’ve been working in this world as a sporting director for 26 years. I’ve always heard people say that players make an effort to join a club. In Bryan’s case, that’s a fact. Bryan made a huge financial effort to come to Espanyol. I’m delighted with his willingness to be here," he added.
Zaragoza himself expressed his satisfaction at beginning this new chapter in his career.
“I’m very happy to be here, where I wanted to be. I’m excited and looking forward to it being a great year. There’s a lot of excitement around the club. I don’t feel any pressure. I’m here to do my job and give everything for Espanyol.”
“I needed stability, to spend some time at just one club, and Espanyol is ideal for that. Espanyol’s project is ideal for me," he explained.
“Manolo asks me to be myself, the same Bryan I’ve always been. Espanyol are going to play with a winger staying out wide this season. I want to enjoy myself. My priority is to play and be happy.”
Describing his main strengths, he underlined that “I can bring directness, vision, one-on-one ability and a lot of desire. That won’t be lacking. I can’t wait to make my debut.”
“We have a good squad and a good team. But the main objective is to stay up, and then we can look further up the table.”
