Saturday of celebration continues 125th anniversary festivities
The fans provide an unbeatable atmosphere in a special week for the club
This past Saturday, coinciding with the match against Elche CF, RCD Espanyol held a very special day to commemorate the club’s 125th anniversary, putting the fans centre stage.
From early in the morning, the Fan Zone became the meeting point for thousands of Pericos who took in the family-friendly atmosphere. To keep their appetites satiated, a traditional ‘butifarrada’ meal of Spanish sausage sandwiches were served up outside the stadium.
The welcome given to the team was as spectacular as always. The fans accompanied the first-team bus upon its arrival at the RCDE Stadium, creating a unique atmosphere of encouragement.
Once inside the ground, violinist Noémi Jakob provided a musical touch with a moving rendition of "Sera porque te amo" and "Sweet Caroline," while Cris Juanico took over with a version of "Amor Indestructible" (Indestructible Love). Fireworks, a blue and white mosaic, and the tifo commemorating the club's origins, completed the pre-match ambience.
When the action got underway on the pitch, RCD Espanyol secured an important victory thanks to Carlos Romero's goal in the 1-0 win, and after the final whistle the players performed a lap of honour to thank the fans for their unwavering support.
The celebration continued in the Fan Zone, where the festivities continued with songs, smiles, and a shared passion for RCD Espanyol, uniting the club and its fans.
