Romero: "We need to start a winning run"
The defender speaks about the upcoming fixture against Real Oviedo
Speaking to the media this Thursday, Carlos Romero acknowledged that the team need to find their groove after a tough start to 2026. The defender pointed out that “the main thing is to keep a clean sheet, because we're conceding goals that are costing us points. The other day we had a chance to make it 1-3 and we couldn't kill off the game. We're lacking in some aspects, but the team have a clear plan and I think we have three chances to pick up points this month before the international break. Winning puts you in a better position in the table and I think the team are very ambitious.”
“We have had wins slip away from us in the final stretch, as happened against Valencia. against Celta Vigo, and in the last match in Elche. We have to get that victory no matter what, and forget everything that's happened up to now. We have to start a winning run. The team need a victory to change the dynamic and we hope it comes soon.”
Romero also commented on rumours that he could be in line for a Spain callup.
"To get there, you have to be the best and compete at the highest level with your club. That's what I'm doing," he stated.
Regarding the situation suffered by Omar El Hilali's in Elche and the disciplinary proceedings opened by the Competition Committee, he emphasised that "it's a matter for LaLiga. Omar seems to be doing well. There's an ongoing investigation, and we'll see what happens."
Finally, about Monday’s opponents, Real Oviedo, he warned that "they're a deceptive team, with plenty of talent. They have some very good players. I know some of them, and I know the quality they possess. They're a very dangerous team. We already saw what they were capable of away to Real Sociedad. If we go there overconfident and relaxed, they could hurt us."
