RCD Espanyol claim 4-0 win in second preseason friendly

An encounter for RCD Espanyol against Pau FC provided a step up for Los Pericos, as they ran out with a 4-0 win in their second preseason encounter.

The French side, who finished ninth in Ligue 2 last season -with current Espanyol player Omar Sadik in on loan- had won their first two preseason friendlies against Real Sociedad and Tarbes, respectively.

Espanyol were determined to avoid any surprises and went on the offensive from the opening whistle. Their positive start was rewarded after just four minutes, when Rafa Bauza once again opened the scoring with a solo effort -repeating the feat from last Saturday's match against Olot.

Shortly afterwards, goalkeeper Fortuño had to produce an excellent save. The warning sign was enough for Espanyol, who immediately raised the tempo again. Kike García found himself one-on-one with opposition keeper Salles, who reacted brilliantly, before making another fine stop from Pere Milla just a minute later.

As the first half progressed, the game settled into a more evenly matched, scrappy contest, with few clear-cut chances as both teams looked to maintain a high tempo.

However, in the closing stages of the opening period, Espanyol produced an outstanding team move. Javi Hernández initiated the attack before switching over to Jofre on the right flank. His subsequent pinpoint cross was met by Kike García's header to make it 2-0 just before the break.

In the 56th minute, Pau FC's Openda struck the crossbar, moments before Manolo González made a host of substitutions to inject freshness into the side. Urko once again partnered Cabrera in central defence, while Edu Expósito took over in midfield. He came close with an effort that drifted narrowly wide, then Cabrera headed home from inside the area to make it 3-0 just afterwards.

There was still time for one more goal. Dolan burst down the wing and delivered an accurate cross that Marcos Fernández headed in to take the scoreline to 4-0.
