Following the events of the match against RCD Mallorca, RCD Espanyol wish to express our deep concern regarding the refereeing decisions made, many of them at the behest of the VAR, which have left our club and fans feeling helpless and frustrated by calls we find difficult to understand.
RCD Espanyol have always shown the utmost respect for the refereeing community, recognising the complexity and responsibility that their work entails. However, we believe this respect must be mutual and reflected in equitable treatment of our club, our players, coaching staff, and fans.
The club understand that errors are part of sport, but also believe it is essential that they be analysed and acknowledged to ensure transparency and improve the competition. Therefore, since the end of the match, RCD Espanyol have initiated -and will continue to take- the necessary steps with the relevant bodies to request clear explanations for the decisions made, with the sole objective of clarifying what happened and contributing to the improvement of our football.
RCD Espanyol will continue working with determination and respect to defend the interests of the club and our fans, convinced that integrity and sporting justice are fundamental cornerstones of football that must be protected.
