Match Report: Third consecutive win for RCD Espanyol
Los Pericos beat Getafe CF 1-0 at home
RCD Espanyol claimed a 1-0 win against Getafe CF in their LaLiga Matchday 32 fixture, continuing a great run since January. Marash Kumbulla scored the only goal of the game, as Los Pericos bested the top away side of 2025 at the RCDE Stadium.
Coming into the game off two consecutive wins on the road, they were looking to bring happiness to the home fans, and keep their quest for top flight survival on track.
The team started well against intense opposition, who benefited from the lenient refereeing by Mr. De Burgos Bengoetxea and were ortunate not to receive a series of yellow cards.
Whilst matching Getafe's aggression, they continued to offer moments of attractive football. Jofre Carreras provided the first warning with a long-range shot, before Edu Expósito attempted an effort from the edge of the area that also went off target.
A penalty appeal for Antoniu Roca, which seemed clear-cut despite the visiting defender's claims that he got the ball, fell on deaf ears.
Espanyol's improved play was finally rewarded with the decisive goal, as a strike from Kumbulla found the top corner to make it 1-0.
Getafe came out with more momentum after the halftime break and approached the RCD Espanyol area on a couple of dangerous occasions. On the clearest of them, goalkeeper Joan García flew across to make another of the saves of the season, keeping out a header from Mauro Arambarri -Getafe's top scorer this season.
The magnificent save was followed by another big moment, as Getafe's Uche was sent off for a wild challenge on Jofre.
Espanyol had a chance to finish off their opponents on the counterattack several times. Jofre found plenty of space on the right wing with his constant runs, but he failed to connect with Roberto Fernández in the middle.
Los Pericos were able to manage their advantage against a side who struggled when down to 10 min. Cheddira scored in added time, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
RCD Espanyol thus took a third consecutive victory, a feat not seen since the 2019/20 season. They also extended their unbeaten streak at the RCDE Stadium to ten matches.
