Match Report: 2-2 draw against Celta Vigo
Kike García and Tyrhys Dolan score the goals for RCD Espanyol
RCD Espanyol were held to a 2-2 draw by visitors Celta Vigo on LaLiga Matchday 24, sharing the points at the RCDE Stadium.
The match that began with a one-point gap between the two teams, and ended in the same way, but both sides were determined to fight for the win. RCD Espanyol wanted to consolidate their sixth place in the table and break a run of negative results. The visitors had a chance to overtake Espanyol in the standings and continue the momentum they have gained in 2026.
Celta Vigo's game plan worked perfectly in the first half. They sat deep, taking no risks, and waited for an open space to launch counter-attacks. One of thos led to the first goal of the game: Ferran Jutglà's strike arrived off just three touches in the move, and put the away side in front.
Throughout the first half, RCD Espanyol's dominance, possession, and persistent attacks proved fruitless. Goalkeeper Radu dealt with every chance created, preventing Los Pericos from taking the lead.
As expected, Manolo González shook things up and began making substitutions at the start of the second half. From that decision came Kike García's equaliser, through pure stubbornness. He fought relentlessly for the ball and beat the visiting goalkeeper with a shot that nestled into the top corner.
The goal to make it 1-1 breathed life into the home side. They almost went behind again, however, save for VAR ruling out a goal for Celta Vigo's Borja Iglesias.
There were still more stories to tell, such as Tyrhys Dolan taking advantage of an excellent pass from Ramón Terrats to put the home side ahead near the end. RCD Espanyol seemed set for a welcome victory, with a 2-1 advantage, but late into stoppage time they were thwarted: Borja Iglesias had his shot find the back of the net, taking it back to 2-2.
The final minutes saw the game open up completely with both teams throwing everything forward, but the scoreline remained the same.
