Match Report: 1-2 defeat to Getafe CF
RCD Espanyol miss out on points at the RCDE Stadium
RCD Espanyol's LaLiga Matchday 29 encounter with Getafe CF ended in a 1-2 defeat, with Roberto Fernandez's second half goal not enough to earn a share of the points.
RCD Espanyol started with energy, drive, and dominance, injecting speed and belief into their play. The objective was the three points, in an attempt to break a long winless streak. Two corners in the first two minutes and continuous attacks on the penalty area were promising signs, even creating controversywhen VAR called the referee over to review a move that ended in a corner. Previously, the ball had struck Diego Rico's hand in the six-yard box, but nothing was given.
Los Pericos continued with their approach: supplying their forwards with constant crosses. From one, supplied by Tyrhys Dolan, the ball sailed over Kike García, but Ngonge controlled it with quality and placed it into the back of the net. However, it was disallowed for an offside call against Dolan.
On 30 minutes, a cross from the left was won by Kike, who played a short pass inside the six-yard box for Terrats to get ahead of his marker and strike. Once again, the goal was ruled out.
In the nine minutes of added time in the first half, Duarte made it 0-1 to Getafe, from an assist by Luis Milla. Mauro Arrambarri, four minutes later, took the score to 0-2 with an assist from Duarte.
Roberto came on at the start of the second half, and it was the Andalusian striker who, in the 68th minute, headed home a cross from Rubén Sánchez, pulling the score back to 1-2.
Chances arrived down the right flank; Pere Milla came very close to equalising with a header from the heart of the area that David Soria saved.
Espanyol's frustration continued with a blow to the face from Juan Iglesias on Ramon Terrats and a foul by Domingos Duarte on Jofre Carreras that neither the referee nor VAR deemed punishable.
The match entered its final stages with continuous interruptions and bookings.
In stoppage time, the Getafe goalkeeper David Soria again prevented an equaliser from a looping shot from Kike García. Espanyol tried until the very end, but the scoreline remained unchanged.
