Lozano: "We need to regain a sense of solidity"

The midfielder previews the game against Atletico Madrid

Looking ahead to the game against Atletico Madrid this Saturday, RCD Espanyol’s Pol Lozano has acknowledged that the team need to return to winning ways at home.

Speaking on Wednesday, the midfielder said "It’s a necessity. We’ve gone several games without a win, but this is also an opportunity for us to prove ourselves. Winning at home -regardless of the opponent- is crucial."

The academy product noted that Los Colchoneros are “a very competitive side. They build a stronger squad every year. We need to be very solid defensively, and from that foundation, show more composure on the ball than we have recently."

For Lozano, securing a home win "helps you approach away games with greater confidence.”

“We are fully focused on picking up points and getting back to being the team we’ve shown we can be."

“I understand why the fans are demanding results, because that’s what matters most. It’s good that there are high expectations; we’re the first ones to demand that of ourselves. It hurts when we don’t win, but these high standards are ultimately a positive thing."

He also admitted that, “as a fan, I would blame the players too. We’re the ones on the pitch, and we’re the ones who have to perform. In the game in Málaga, we made mistakes. We could have defended the chance for their equaliser much better."

Lozano concluded by explaining "We need to regain that sense of solidity we once had -ensuring that, for instance, the opposition can’t score against us in the 92nd minute. These are situations we must have under control."
