Lozano: "We have to be competitive and stay calm"
The midfielder looks ahead to the Catalan derby
With the first half of the season in the books, the aim for the second half of the campaign remains to take things one step at a time. Pol Lozano reiterated this philosophy on Tuesday when speaking to the media, and said that "We have to be competitive and stay calm. What we want is to win, enjoy the process, and keep doing things well in order to go as far as possible."
Coming up is a Catalan derby against Girona FC, and last season at Montilivi RCD Espanyol suffered a tough defeat.
"It was a disaster and also a turning point in the campaign, because the team changed our mindset. We want to win, and we'd be just as happy with a 1-0 victory as with a 4-1 triumph."
The midfielder warns that Girona are a side that play very well, adding that "they earned 81 points in LaLiga two years ago. They've lost several players, but their approach remains the same."
He also had words of encouragement for Javi Puado, who will undergo surgery this Thursday and will miss the rest of the season as a result.
“I’ve known him for many years, and I suffered with him when he had the same problem with his other knee. I’ve been talking to Javi, and he seems upbeat, eager to recover as soon as possible and to help us again when he returns. We’ll be thinking of him in every match and wishing him lots of strength and encouragement.”
On Manolo González' approach, he stated that “He really emphasises the idea of winning every match. Against Barcelona, we deserved more, and against Levante, we let the win slip away due to a lapse in concentration. We’re getting used to winning. The other day we drew, and it left a bad taste in our mouths -as if it were a defeat. It’s good that we’re getting used to winning and that it hurts when we draw.”
