Lozano: "It was important to start well"
The midfielder talks to EspanyolMEDIA
RCD Espanyol midfielder Pol Lozano talked to EspanyolMEDIA during the international break, and praised the team's strong start to the season.
"We're doing well. It was important to start well, as we were up against tough opponents. We've done a good job and we'll continue like this, I’m sure," he stated on Wednesday.
Lozano also highlighted the team's performance against teams they failed to beat last season.
"Last year we weren’t able to win against Osasuna or Atletico Madrid. We have to value the job we did against these opponents."
Regarding the team's mentality, he highlighted the influence of the coaching staff, saying that "The coach really hammers home the idea that we have to be a winning team, regardless of the opposition or whether it's preseason or the season proper. We also have to keep working defensively, because we've already got a lot up front, which is spectacular."
Focused on the next match for the team, at the RCDE Stadium against Mallorca, Lozano acknowledged that "we're facing opponents who we believe will be competing against us for a common objective. Mallorca are a side that we have to beat at home. We have to give our all against these kinds of opponents and have the confidence that we can beat any team."
He also had words for the fans and their connection with homegrown players.
"If you have the fans on your side, you have more confidence. Those of us who came up through the youth academy have a different relationship with the fans. You experience it differently."
Finally, he offered constructive self-criticism about his fitness and the process of adapting to the competitive pace.
"I'm very happy. I think I'm doing well, and I have room for improvement. We've only played a few games, and you don't have as much experience of playing 90 minutes. Right now, you end up dead when you play 90 minutes, but we'll get more well-versed in that."
