Kike García: "Teams have had to sweat blood to beat us"
The forward expresses his satisfaction with recent showings
RCD Espanyol's win away to Getafe continued the team's positive LaLiga run, and before the Christmas break they have one final challenge on Monday night. Athletic Club await Los Pericos, and striker Kike García is looking forward to the challenge.
"The next step for us is to have some good days working and focus on the opportunity we have on Monday, which is to pick up more points at a very difficult ground, against Champions League-calibre opposition. That's what we need to keep in mind: We know that getting 30 points isn't the end of the road. The team know this, and we want more."
For the forward, fans "have been seeing a recognisable team throughout the season. In LaLiga it's very difficult to win games, and you can have streaks of two or three games in which you don't pick up any points. The most important thing is to end that run quickly. It's very hard to win four games in a row in LaLiga, but we're in good form and we have to take advantage of it."
"To beat us, teams have had to sweat blood. In the matches we've lost, we've fought until the very end -like against Villarreal when we pegged them back in their half and created chances, or against Betis when we fought until the last second to get a draw. We give our all in every game. Football is rewarding us at the moment, and now we're focused on getting those 42 points needed for survival -and don't want to hear about anything else.”
Drawing on his extensive experience, he acknowledged that “you never know when a bad run is going to hit, because he's already been through some, but we have a hungry group, eager to do well and reward the fans who have been with us from the beginning.”
