González: "We're confident that we can win"
The coach looks at the game against Sevilla FC
RCD Espanyol coach Manolo González said to the media, when asked about the squad's morale, that “We’re confident we can win. We’re arriving strong and convinced we can compete against a team like Sevilla."
The coach reiterated that, within the dressing room, “everyone is convinced we can avoid relegation. We do many things well during games, but there are other things that are costing us points. I think we’ve done enough to be in a better position than we're in now.”
For the Espanyol coach, the key to the game lies in “staying focused, not losing our composure, and even using the hostile atmosphere to our advantage. That can happen. We can’t give the opponent any opportunity; we have to force them to earn it. All of that depends on being focused and confident.”
“With a win, we can take a near-decisive step. I’m not considering any other scenarios. If we have a normal game, if we play well, without mistakes, we’ll definitely have a chance to win.”
González emphasised that “we’re all old enough to know that tomorrow will be a high-pressure match for both teams. We have to be a mature team in order to turn things around and win.”
"I don’t want to hear about any other game than the one in Seville. Now our situation is like a playoff with several other teams, and we have to be well-positioned. The first game is tomorrow, and we have to approach it with maturity and be fully focused.”
The coach reminded everyone that “what has made us strong is our organisation. We have to be focused on not making mistakes and on being clinical in front of goal. We have to show a lot of character and capitalise on the opportunities that arise during the game. We can’t let our guard down at any point. That’s vital.”
