González: "We'll have to be fully focused from the very first minute"

The coach previews the game against Real Sociedad

Manolo González addressed the media in his pre-match press conference before RCD Espanyol’s game against Real Sociedad, and took a pragmatic approach to the LaLiga Matchday 3 game.

After the painful stoppage-time defeat against Real Madrid last weekend, he insisted that "it's time to pick ourselves back up, and that's how we have to approach everything each week. The team are in good shape, but we'll have to be fully focused from the very first minute. We have to compete well and work hard. That's our approach every week. The moment we stop being a team is when we will suffer."

Regarding Real Sociedad, he points out that "they lost against Betis despite having enough chances to have drawn the game, and the other day they lost away to Real Madrid. The league standings aren’t a true reflection at the moment. Tomorrow's match will be difficult, for sure."

The closing of the transfer window and the arrival of Bryan Zaragoza were also prominent topics in the lead-up to the match in San Sebastián.

“If we can do anything more in terms of signings, it will be in a position to contribute. We're not going to bring in players just for the sake of it. I'm happy with how things have gone and with the new additions. I think the team have solutions, and when we get Puado and Kike back, we'll have even more. A good job has been done this summer,” he said.

“Bryan is a player we wanted and who will help us. It wasn't a two-day negotiation process. It was hard work, and the kid put in a lot of effort to come here. He's a player with a different level of skill, but he won't be in the squad this week because we want him to adapt and get up to speed with the team.”
