González: "We want to seal survival as soon as possible"
The coach looks forward to the meeting with Real Betis
After a brilliant month of April, RCD Espanyol's Manolo González wants his team to maintain the same level in May. The coach previewed Sunday's game against Real Betis in a pre-match press conference, giving his thoughts on the final few weeks of the campaign.
"We want to seal survival as soon as possible, and we want to continue competing at our best. Betis are a very good" team, but we're prepared mentally and physically to compete against anyone. I'm only concerned about the team arriving in good shape for our games, staying focused on the job we have to do, and competing at our best every week," he told journalists.
"We still want to continue improving, with the intention of providing more solutions for the players, especially in attack. We've improved positionally, but we need more options so the team can grow even more."
Asked about Betis, he emphasised that "we have to control their transitions, try to defend well, be calm with the ball, and threaten the opposition so they feel we can create scoring opportunities."
"We knew that this year would be very difficult, but we have to try to keep the team growing. As a club, we have to take a step forward every year. Staying up would allow us to grow in all areas of the club."
