González: "We performed well but the game slipped away from us"
The coach speaks after the 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid
Manolo González attended the post-match press conference following the match against Atletico Madrid, in which he lamented the goal conceded in the final minutes.
“It’s just as cruel as it was last week against Málaga. The team had a good game. We struggled during the first 25 minutes, but after that, we made the right adjustments. The result is a real shame; it hurts because we performed well, yet the game slipped away from us," he explained.
The coach highlighted the team’s discipline and competitive spirit against a demanding side.
“The team competed -which is exactly what’s required of you. We wanted a long, drawn-out game, so that we’d still be in contention towards the end and have a chance to take the lead. We did a great job and remained very disciplined; it’s a real pity that we conceded. While it wasn’t the same type of incident as in our last game, we really should have closed the game out by the 90th minute.”
Finally, González emphasised the importance of staying persistent in order to turn things around.
“We need to keep refining our tactical approach and continue working hard in games to change the current situation.”
