González: "We knew we'd have a chance"
The coach reviews the win over Celta Vigo
For Manolo González, RCD Espanyol's victory against Celta Vigo was a deserved one, and he revealed the keys to the triumph in his post-match press conference.
"We had to avoid giving the opposition any advantages, and we had to capitalise on what we're good at. We have conviction in what we do. The players respected the game plan and the type of opponent we were up against. We knew we'd have a chance, and that's why we had to prevent them from hurting us beforehand. When you have to run and work hard defensively, you do it. That's the hardest part: convincing the players to work so hard and defend like animals. I'm very proud of the team," he explained.
The manager acknowledged that "if the game had been 0-0 in the final stages, we knew we would have a chance. That's why Expósito and the fresh strikers came on."
Despite the victory and the team's performance, he emphasised that “I always have my sights set on us reaching 42 points. People might say I'm being repetitive, but we're not complacent. We won't be complacent or relax, but we've been through a very tough time, surviving relegation and achieving promotion in recent seasons. We need to reach those 42 points quickly, and then we'll look at other objectives. We can't afford to make any mistakes.”
