González: "We have to get back to our best form"
The coach calls for a reset after the loss to Villarreal CF
Manolo González's post-match press conference after the game against Villarreal CF saw him analyse the game -and express that there were things to improve for upcoming fixtures.
“The first half wasn't a performance befitting a 0-2 scoreline, not by a long shot. And in the second half, we tried to push forward, but they hurt us on the counter-attack and killed the game off,” he told journalists.
“The opposition have talent, but the scoring opportunities they had were avoidable for us. We have to regain that competitive edge. We have to reset now. We have to go back to attacking and not conceding again.”
In his post-mortem of the result, González also emphasised that “Villarreal's players were pushing themselves to the limit, and we didn't stop their counter-attacks. We couldn't take the lead, and with the score at 0-3 at the start of the second half, the game became very difficult.”
Finally, he commented on Ngonge's debut.
“He worked hard, like the other players who came on in the second half. He came on in a difficult situation. He's a player who will give us an edge in one-on-ones and contribute to the team."
“We have to get through this and get back to our best form. We have to take a step forward to turn things around.”
