González: "We had the game there to be won"
The coach speaks after the derby defeat at home to FC Barcelona
RCD Espanyol's Manolo González spoke to the press after the match against FC Barcelona, and lamented that his side could not get something from a strong performance in the derby.
“We’re angry because we had the game there to be won, and it slipped away from us. We have to change our mentality and not be satisfied just because we played well. Today was a game we should have won, and it got away from us.”
The coach also emphasised that “the atmosphere was incredible. I’m very proud of the team and the fans. If we want to keep improving, we have to go home angry today; we have to be demanding of ourselves. We had the game there to be won. The team played well and deserved more, but that’s not enough for us.”
Finally, he concluded the post-derby press conference by saying, “Football is about finishing. No matter how many chances you create, if you don’t score from them, you don’t deserve to win the game. We defended well for almost the entire match, but when you’re not clinical in front of goal, you can’t win.”
