González: "We don't even consider planning on going for a draw"
The coach previews the game against CD Leganés
Manolo González did not want to talk about anything other than the three points at stake in RCD Espanyol's game against Leganés at Butarque.
The coach set the tone from his first words in the pre-match press conference for the game.
"We don't even consider planning on going for a draw. Tomorrow we're going to go for the win, because that's what we've been trying to do all year," he said.
"I'm a winner, and so are the team, and we're going to try to compete at our best until the very last day of the season. If we can achieve survival tomorrow, great, but we're going to continue competing at our best for the rest of the season."
He emphasised that, since last weekend, "we've had it in our plans that our intention is to go to Butarque to have a good game and try to win. We have to focus only on ourselves and come out with conviction and composure, dominating the different phases of the game to get the three points."
He reminded journalists that "Leganés were promoted last season as champions in the Segunda División, and we weren't. What matters to us is being reliable with the ball and defending well. We want to be the reliable, recognisable team that we have been in the second half of the season."
"We've played finals all year. We've had that pressure every matchday. Tomorrow is an important game, but we have to compete with common sense," he insisted.
Finally, he explained that RCD Espanyol will be missing Pol Lozano for this match "because we don't want to take any risks."
