González: "We didn't start the game well"
The coach reviews the defeat away at Alavés
Manolo González acknowledged that his side's defeat at Mendizorroza was largely due to their lack of precision in the opening minutes.
The coach pointed out that the result “isn't entirely fair, but we didn't start the game well, especially in the first few minutes. We improved later, and just when we were playing better, they scored their second goal. We were definitely better in the second half. We needed to compete at our best, and we didn't do that in the first few minutes.”
For the manager, some of the key factors in the match were the team's poor pressing “and our failure to win our duels. We improved as soon as we corrected that, but then Kike Garcia's injury hampered us, because we were doing better with two strikers.”
The manager emphasised that the players “were confident they could win the game with the score at 2-1. They have complete faith in what we're doing. However, we can't afford to concede those goals and be so weak in the opening minutes.”
