González: "We did it"
The coach celebrates Primera División survival
Manolo González couldn't help but acknowledge the enormous difficulty the team had in achieving survival in the top flight, and also his immense joy after the victory against Las Palmas.
"It was very difficult for us, but luckily, we were sharp in the second half and we achieved what we wanted to do. We're still in the Primera División, staying up with 42 points. It's incredible, in a very difficult year. I thought I'd experience a game similar to the one against Oviedo in the playoffs last season, but it was nothing like it," commented the coach in his post-match press conference.
He also praised the tremendous work done by his squad and acknowledged the talent of many of them, singling out "the tremendous work done by Sergi Gómez in the dressing room. He's an example to follow."
"The goal remains to stay in the Primera División year after year, to achieve the necessary stability for this club. I love this club very much. Staying up with Espanyol is an enormous feeling. I didn't come here for money, nor will I stay for money."
Finally, he emphasised that "all teams have their goals, and we've achieved ours. It's taken a mental and physical toll, but we've achieved it... I'm very happy."
